Cicada magazine - Needs Stories on Monsters and Maps
 
Cicada magazine, a cultural arts publication for young adults, is inviting writers to submit stories for a forthcoming issue on Maps and Monsters. This issue will include real and metaphorical monsters: sea serpents, trolls, mutants, wild animals, and the like, accompanied with maps to help young readers traverse the wild lands inhabited by the monsters and to trace and track the relationships and species of these monsters.
 
Marianne Carus, editor-in-chief, is reviewing poetry, fiction, essays, and comics related to the theme. Word length: up to 9K words for fiction; up to 5K words for nonfiction; and open line count for poetry. Payment: 25 cents/word for prose; $3/line for poetry.
 
Deadline: July 31, 2014.
