Focus on the Family Magazine: Brio Fiction: A Summer Adventure
Topic: Focus on the Family Brio magazine is now accepting contemporary short fiction. Although you are always welcome to send your complete short, modern-day, fiction stories of 800 to 1,000 words on any topic, we are especially interested in contemporary short fiction that includes a summer setting. We consider humorous or poignant contemporary fiction, as long as the main character is a teen girl and you include a faith element. (Only short fiction is accepted through the email address below.)
Word count: 800 to 1000 words
Rights: First nonexclusive rights
Payment: $250, on acceptance
Due date: January 18, 2018
Byline: Yes — whether in print or online
Audience: Teen girls with a biblical worldview
Submission and format: Submit your article both within your email and as an attachment to the email. In the email, do not worry about spacing, indents, etc. A single-spaced manuscript below your cover letter / contact information is ideal. Your attached article should be double-spaced, with a Times New Roman font, 12 pts., and with 1-inch margins. The attachment should include your contact information at the top. Send your submission to our Brio short fiction submission inbox with "Attn: Brio Fiction Editor" in the subject line. Also provide a couple lines about yourself after the end of your story.
Acceptance/Rejection: If an editor has not contacted you within eight weeks of your submission, then we have decided not to use your short fiction. Thank you for submitting your manuscript, and we will look forward to working with you another time.
