PreK Writing Contest

Posted by Sally Clark on Saturday, October 10, 2015
PreK Writing Contest

What: Submit an unpublished animal story geared to children ages 1-4 fewer than 500 words
Prizes: $650 1st place; $350 2nd place; $100 for 3rd, 4th, 5th places
Fee: reading fee of $19 per entry
Deadline: October 30, 2015

To enter our PreK Animal Story writing contest, submit an original, unpublished PreK Animal story, of 500 words or less. PreK readers are defined as ages 1 to 4, children beginning to read entire stories on their own, stretching their recognition of words and concepts, but likely to need some assistance from an adult.  Entries should be for read-alouds by an adult to a child.

Submissions will be judged on story line, characterization, and freshness, but also on structure, grammar, and ultimate publishability. Stories or concepts should be well-constructed. The overall idea or concept must be one that a pre-schooler can grasp and potentially solve: it must be age-appropriate.
