Saturday Writers Short Story Contest - Purple/Brown
Saturday Writers Short Story Contest - Color Prompt: Brown/Purple http://www.saturdaywriters.org/sw-contests.html
Here are some ideas to work color into your story:
The story can take place near the muddy Mississippi River, in middle-ages England or the old west where roads are dirt and mud. Your story could happen at sunset, beneath a purple sky. Sci-Fi stories can make anything purple: people, animals, sky, plants, ocean...
Set your story in the 70’s for psychedelic colors, and brown suits and shoes are common for men of all eras. Anything goes for dress and makeup, brown & purple hair can be mentioned in almost every story. Brown eyes are very common, too.
Purple beets, eggplant, grapes, purple potatoes, onions, or purple asparagus can be worked into a story with a meal. Go brown with steaks, chili, beans, or fried chicken, spices like ginger or cinnamon, and drinks like tea, coffee, or dark beer.
Chocolate, chocolate, or chocolate. ‘Nuff said?
A brown dog or cat as a companion. Even a horse or cow. Meet a brown bear, a snake, a mountain lion, or even Bigfoot. A peacock, a raven, or even some exotic South American bird might fit your story. Work in a dragon.
Barney the Dinosaur, Tinky Winky, The Kool-aid Pitcher guy... Kids love purple and mud and chocolate.
Purple Rain or The Color Purple movies, or songs like “Purple People Eater”, “Purple Haze”, “Brown-Eyed Woman”, “Old Brown Shoe”, or “Little Brown Jug”.
Purple and or brown does not have to be the focus of your story, but hopefully it will add some color to your writing. |
