Story Share Writing Contest

The storyshares library is home to a unique collection of easy to read, hard to put down books specifically created to engage teens & adults who struggle with reading, written at a 1st - 5th grade reading level (RL) with clear language, but mature content.

Contest closes: February 1, 2022. Story length between 1,000 and 15,000 words

Our contest includes awards for short stories and texts in the following four categories:

Diversity First prize: $2,000 + publication in digital & print. Seeking culturally relevant and inclusive stories that highlight the broad range of human backgrounds and experiences

Fifty States First prize: $1,000 + publication in digital & print. From the salmon-swollen rivers of Alaska to the skyscraping towers of New York, we’re looking for stories set against intimate real-life settings here in the US.

Creative Nonfiction First prize - $1,000 + publication in digital & print. We’re looking for true stories that are presented in compelling and engaging ways. We’re talking accurate information bundled into a riveting tale.

Coming of Age Award First prize - $1,000 + publication in digital & print. No matter how old we become, there is something relatable about coming of age tales. From classroom assignments to broken hearts, these stories are timeless.
